Consider a hypothetical problem of infant mortality in developing countries; this is a big issue, since the mortality rates are high. When a pregnant mother comes to a hospital, she needs to fill out a questionnaire. Typically, state-run hospitals in India collect information such as age of the mother, age of the father, their education, their income, their food habits (non-vegetarian/vegetarian/vegan), the number of times they visit the doctor, and their location. Since infant mortality is a serious issue, doctors try to apply regression techniques to zero in factors that might be responsible for the outcome.
