Abstract

This chapter describes satellite-based global precipitation products archived and distributed at the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center for global drought research and monitoring activities. The global precipitation products consist of datasets from the popular NASA–JAXA Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis and the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Mission (GPM), or IMERG, from the recently launched GPM satellite and its partner satellites. Related data services that facilitate data access and applications are presented. Tools that allow data exploration and visualization without downloading data and software are introduced along with examples.
