Abstract

The key challenges in the heteroepitaxy of semiconductors, relative to the development of useful devices, include the control of the growth morphology, stress and strain, and crystal defects. The purpose of this chapter is to review the properties of semiconductors that bear on these aspects of heteroepitaxy, including crystallographic properties, elastic properties, surface properties, and defect structures.
