Abstract

According to Laser Marketplace 2015 from Laser Focus World[1], the fiber laser share of the global industrial laser market revenue reached 39.3% in 2015 (data from Strategies Unlimited). Next in line were CO2 lasers at 31.8% and solid-state lasers at 15.6%. Fiber lasers have been continuously taking market share from both solid-state lasers and CO2 lasers, as well as dominating many new applications in materials processing. The market for fiber lasers is growing much faster than the overall global industrial laser market and is largely responsible for the significant recent growth in this market. Fiber lasers today are used in a wide range of traditional metal processing procedures, including 2D/3D cutting, welding, cladding, remote processing, brazing, drilling, engraving, sintering, and marking. Increasingly, fiber lasers are also used in the material processing of plastics, glass, and ceramics for more advanced applications and in wafer cutting and circuit trimming in the semiconductor industry.
