Abstract

Groundwater is the largest source of readily available freshwater in the world (Subramanya, 2005). Proper accounting and management of this precious resource is vital for human survival and economic development of any nation. Population growth assisted by urbanization, climate change, disasters, and improper management has resulted in overexploitation and degradation of this resource in almost all parts of the world. Water resource management problems are primarily dominated by regional topography, geology, hydrology, economy, climate, regulations on water withdrawals/use, and implementation strategies. Hence, multiple solution strategies depending on the region of interest are to be evaluated to solve a given water resource management problem.
