Abstract

U-tube manometers are classified into a group of devices that can measure pressure directly and absolutely. The terms absolute and direct pressure measurement are postulated in Chapter 16. U-tube manometers determine pressure based on the measurement of fundamental physical quantity, which is the level difference of a manometric liquid in two limbs of a manometer. Both the measurement range and sensitivity of these devices are related to the used manometric liquid, device construction, and the measurement method of the difference in two levels. The accuracy depends not only on the precision of the measurement of liquid levels but also on the purity of manometric liquids, temperature deviation, and other gauge parameters related to the uniformity of the tube walls.
