Abstract

During the past decades there has been a great increase in the development and use of species distribution models [2, 4, 18], also referred to as bioclimate envelope models [3, 40], habitat suitability models [5, 27] or ecological niche models [27]. These models generally aim at explaining and predicting variation in the occurrences or abundances of species as a function of environmental and spatial variables.
