Abstract

An action plan to minimize natural resources degradation must be based on the principles of sustainability so that soil can be handed over to the future generation under better conditions than received from the previous generation. Thus, management practices must be ecologically sound, economically feasible, and socially and politically acceptable. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) are important technologies for addressing challenges in sustainable management of natural resources. Recent developments in multispectral scanner, radar system, and a multitude of quantitative techniques for analyzing and processing such data provide opportunities for data acquisition through RS and array of techniques for data analyses.
