In the previous chapter we were introduced to two different types of graph, each having its own specific edge type: directed and undirected. Mixed graphs have more than one type of edge, which may be undirected, directed, bidirected ( ↔ ) or take some other form. In this chapter we consider models based on some of the more common varieties of these mixed graphs, specifically those introduced for two purposes: the unification of directed and undirected graphs; and models that are closed under marginalization.
