Abstract

Adsorption is a well-known equilibrium separation process and an effective method for water and wastewater treatment applications. Several types of adsorbents, such as activated carbon, zeolite, chitin, or chitosan, and various agricultural wastes such as wood, peat, saw dust, etc., are applied for contaminant removal from the waste stream. This entry provides an overview of adsorption theory, kinetics and mechanism, and recent applications of various adsorbents for contaminant removal from water and wastewater. A summary of recent information concerning adsorption process with an extensive list of adsorbents from many research papers has been provided. The future progress in this technology is also described
