Abstract

Although the interest in sustainable energy resources and environmental pollution is growing rapidly, concerns have been raised against developing high-value bio-based plastics that can be properly manufactured and commercially used. However, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a group of biodegradable and biocompatible polyesters, are considered as promising biopolymers since they exhibit competitive material properties compared with other commodity plastic products in terms of thermal plasticity and mechanical characteristics. Accordingly, substantial attempts have been made to grasp a detailed understanding of both their synthetic mechanism and material properties.
