Abstract

Due to failures that occurred in a network, the traffic transportations are disrupted [1,2]. Different types of failures that occurred in an optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network [2–4] are shown in Figure 7.1. In the network, “duct” is a bidirectional physical cylindrical enclosure between two nodes in which fibers are kept aligned into bundles under the ground [2]. A fiber cut is usually found due to a duct cut during construction or destructive natural calamities, such as earthquakes and flood.
