Abstract

Applying defect prevention to a software development process is an efficient way to reduce defects in software products and improve software quality. The main challenge of defect prevention is the significant effort required for causal analysis of possible causes of software defects and for planning corrective activities. This study describes the difficulty in applying defect prevention to the software development process and proposes an approach for improving defect prevention. The proposed defect prevention process can be applied to identify opportunities for improvement before defects are introduced into software products. In this study, the proposed approach applied to a data set collected from a business project achieved excellent results.
