Abstract

In many areas of sciences, there is the need to process and interpret large amounts of data. In the area of pharmaceutical technology, the development of Process Analytical Technology and the desire to deploy Quality by Design strategies in the future require consideration of experimental designs and consequently the handling, manipulation, and interpretation of large sets of data, which are either structured or fairly unstructured. Multivariate statistical analysis methods provide strategies that can be used to analyze complex data and to reduce the information content included in the data to the most important, statistically significant information that the data harbors. These methods result in a quick and clear overview of the complex data structures, permit direct analysis and interpretation, and most importantly, they can be used to provide graphical representations of the results, which aids understanding (1).
