Abstract

Webster’s Dictionary defines parenteral (originating from para and enteral) as an approach of introducing otherwise than by way of intestines. Hence, all non-oral routes of administration fall under the category of parenteral drug delivery. However, in the interest of maintaining the scope of this article, the focus and emphasis are on injectable routes of administration, viz. intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections.
