Abstract

This entry provides an overview of previous work in global (respectively perceptual) image quality measures. Their application to image compression is discussed. A theoretical overview of featural distortion analysis is given. The emerging technique of error exemplars is summarized, whereby compression transforms and error measures are applied to a database of application-specific test images, to produce performance results that highlight compression transform performance deficits.
