The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) is the principal trade association for the industries. In 1999, the Software Publishers Association, founded in 1984 by the current SIIA CEO, Ken Wasch, merged with the Information Industry Association, which had represented information industry publishers for a number of years, to create the SIIA as the primary trade association for the combined industries. SIIA has a three-pronged mission on behalf of the software and digital content industry: 1) promoting the common interests of the software and digital content industry as a whole, and its component parts; 2) protecting the intellectual property of its member companies, and advocating for a legal and regulatory environment that benefits the entire industry; and 3) informing the industry and the broader public by serving as a resource on trends, technologies, policies, and related issues that affect member firms and demonstrate the contribution of the industry to the broader economy. SIIA is organized into six major divisions: software, content, education, government affairs, antipiracy, and financial and information services. SIIA has more than 500 member companies that it brings together for useful discussions via large-scale and smaller conferences, as well as board, committee, and division-related planning sessions. It runs the CODiE Award Program, established in 1986 as a way for industry professionals to peer review each other's work and celebrate their achievements. SIIA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and more information may be found on its Web site at
