Abstract

Section 1 presents an overview of the most important properties for toxic chemical compounds, and it is concluded that biodegradability is a very important property to use for the estimation of the environmental effects of toxic substances. Definitions of units of biodegradability are given in the section “Biodegradation.” A simple estimation method for biodegradability is presented in the section “Estimation of Biodegradation,” with reference to available software for a first, fast but coarse estimation of the properties of environmentally threatening chemicals.
