Abstract

As the world's population is concentrated in coastal areas, seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers has become a serious water resources issue for the sustainability of humanity. This entry reviews the physical mechanisms; geological, geophysical, and geochemical investigations; mathematical modeling; computer programs; techniques for combating; and planning and management of seawater intrusion into coastal groundwater systems.
