Abstract

Solar radiation is a fuel for photovoltaic cells and modules, which are a source of electric energy. Viable solar technologies that have been developed in the past are starting to be adopted on a broader and more meaningful global scale across different sectors with ever-increasing market penetration. In this entry, a brief overview of the material properties relevant to solar cell operation, the structure of the solar cell, and electrical characteristics is presented.
