Abstract

Ecological agriculture implies approaches to prevent or minimize application of chemical pesticides, which promote local inputs, and where increased farmer knowledge becomes the basis of managing pests and improving yields and sustainability. Organic agriculture is distinctive in requiring an approved body to certify that no chemical fertilizers or pesticides have been used. This provides a guarantee for consumers, and can enable farmers to receive a premium for their crops.
