Prevention of virus and viroid infections in plants is based on biological means rather than chemical measures. In principle, there are no chemicals available for controlling plant diseases caused by viruses and viroids. The most feasible approaches for combating viruses and viroids are the elimination of source inoculum, prevention of secondary spread, cross protection, and use of crops bearing resistance traits.
